Investing in Adolescent Girls Health & Well-Being

CASD Leading the Central Africa Regional Advocacy Caucus at Women Deliver's 2016 Global Conference

As part of the official program for the 2016 Women Deliver conference in Copenhagen Denmark, CASD with support from Women Deliver and PATH will be hosting the Central Africa Regional Caucus on adolescent girls’ health and well-being.

Investing in girls and women health and well-beingThe Caucus will hold on the 19th of May 2016, from 10:30am – 12:00 at Bella Conference Centre, Copenhagen and will bring together diverse stakeholders from 10 Countries in our region (Cameroon, Congo, Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Guinea, Chad, Central African Republic and São Tomé e Principe) to discuss major priorities and strategies for strengthening political and financial commitments to adolescent girls’ health and well-being.

Emphasis will be on SDG implementation and accountability efforts to ensure that the new global goals serve the needs of adolescent girls , building on global commitments such as the Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescent’s Health, ICPD+20 and Beyond, and Beijing+20 processes, and aligning with new platforms, such as Women Deliver’s new advocacy campaign.

Caucus participants will identify and commit to policy advocacy activities that will elevate and accelerate SDG implementation and accountability, creating a positive impact for adolescent girls, and will identify opportunities for collaboration and strategic mobilization upon return from the conference in focus countries and in the region.

Expected overall outcomes from the regional caucus

• Informed, multisectoral networks established or strengthened to achieve policy, advocacy, and accountability goals that further progress on the SDGs so they matter most for adolescent girls.

• New connections forged across constituencies/issue areas and commitments made by participants to better understand gaps and opportunities for synergy in advocacy to improve the health, rights, and well-being of adolescent girls.

• Increased opportunities for civil society, including young people, to participate and engage with government representatives and other decision-makers about the health, rights, and well-being of adolescent girls.

• Increased coordinated action at the country level that contributes to the implementation of priority SDG advocacy and accountability goals.

In preparation to the Caucus, CASD is mobilising  and engaging confirmed Caucus participants and the general public in pre-discussions on issues around Adolescent girls health and well-being through the Facebook Group - Women Deliver 2016 - Central Africa Regional Caucus.
